The Western Titans, a small volunteer-run group based in Drumry, has produced a number of talented riders, including six who recently qualified to compete in the 2026 World Championships in Brisbane.
However, years of heavy use and the track’s year-round availability have taken their toll, leaving it in need of major restoration to bring it back to top condition.
Douglas McAllister, MP for West Dunbartonshire, said: “Due to continuous use of this popular BMX track facility in Drumry the surface has deteriorated, and in fact, could have faced closure had the club been unable to obtain funding to upgrade the track and facilities.”
Now, the bike ride may go on, as a proposed funding bid to help the work be completed has been revealed.
The UK Government announced their Pride in Place Impact funding in September 2025, which is part of a long-term programme for the town.
£1.5m of the grant has been allocated to fund capital projects between 2025 and 2027.
Part of the allocation of the funds which is set to be considered by the Infrastructure, Regeneration & Economic Development Committee at West Dunbartonshire Council include a £60k investment into the popular track.

Mr McAllister added: “My colleague, Councillor Clare Steel, has championed this cause and campaign to help secure funding. I am delighted to support their bid for an award of funds through the UK’s Labour Government’s Pride in Place Impact Fund.”
The BMX track allows children from the local community and further afield to visit the track, stay exercised, and be diverted from negative influences such as youth disorder and anti social behaviour.
Councillor Clare Steel said: “I am delighted that funding from the UK Government’s Pride in Place fund has been secured to repair the Western Titans BMX Club track.
“Over the past number of months, I have worked closely with Craig and the club to support their campaign and make the case for this much-needed investment.
“This is fantastic news for the Western Titans, for local riders, and for the wider community.
“The repaired track will provide a safe, high-quality facility that can be enjoyed for years to come and is a real boost for community sport in the area.”
