Darnell Smith absconded from HMP Springhill near Grendon Underwood, Buckinghamshire, at around 11.30am on Wednesday, January 28.
Thames Valley Police said Smith has links to Sussex, Surrey, Croydon and Plumstead in London.
Smith, 27, is around 5ft 8in tall and of medium build. He was last seen wearing all black clothes.

Investigating officer Police Staff Investigator Evelina Kersyte, of the Prison Crime Team, said: “We are appealing for the help of the public to trace Darnell Smith, who is unlawfully at large after escaping from HMP Springhill.
“If you see Smith, do not approach him and call 999 instead.
“If you have any information as to where Smith may be, please call 101 or make a report online, quoting reference number 43260045393.”
