Zoopla recently published its list of the UK’s cheapest places to rent a home in 2026, ranking the most affordable places to rent in each county.
Data from December 2025 to January 2026 showed that, on average, Londoners were paying around £2,224 per month to rent, an increase of 1.6 per cent over the past year.
While London remains one of the most expensive regions in the UK for renters, some boroughs are more affordable than others, with Croydon being hailed as the cheapest, where rent prices averaged £1,617 per month.

Bromley ranked as the fifth cheapest borough to rent in London, with tenants paying an average of £1,714 a month.
These figures were slightly higher than Bexley, ranked in third position with renters paying £1,638, and Sutton in second place with average rent prices at £1,628, but still below the Londonwide average.
Rent prices in the borough over the past year have risen by 2.3 per cent, adding around £40 to the average monthly rent.

According to data from the Office for National Statistics and HM Land Registry for the year ending March 2025, the most expensive areas to live in Bromley were Langley Park, where the median house price was £825,000, followed by Keston (£725,000) and Petts Wood (£700,000).
Mid-range areas include Hayes North (£665,000), Eden Park & Bethlem (£625,000), and Penge East (£610,000).
The most affordable areas in Bromley include Mottingham (£400,000), Crystal Palace Park (£383,635), New Beckenham (£380,000), St Mary Cray East (£380,000), and Anerley North & Penge West (£350,000).
Last year, Bromley was featured in a number of publications and earmarked as one of the best places to live both in London and nationally.
It was named one of the UK’s best places to retire by The Telegraph, ranked among London’s most family-friendly areas by Making Moves London, and featured in The Guardian’s list of the happiest places to live in Britain.
It was also crowned the happiest place to live in south east London by Rightmove, ranked sixth in The Telegraph’s list of London’s best boroughs, and named one of the most peaceful places in England by Sell House Fast.
