Mims Davies MP signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, which takes place on January 27 and commemorates the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Events across the UK will remember the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

Ms Davies said: “Ahead of Holocaust Memorial Day on Tuesday, January 27, I was honoured to sign the Holocaust Educational Trust Book of Commitment in Parliament.

“I am pledging to remember the six million Jewish men, women and children who were murdered during the Holocaust, and to honour the survivors who continue to bravely share their stories and educate our younger generations.

“We must speak out and act against all forms of antisemitism.

“This dangerous intolerance must be stopped and freedom of religion and expression of this should always prevail.

“Our communities must never be divided, and discrimination cannot be allowed to fester under our noses. MPs, Cllrs leaders in all our communities have duty to stand for peace, unity and to bring hope and fellowship.”

The theme for this year’s commemorations is ‘Bridging Generations.’

Karen Pollock CBE, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said: “On Holocaust Memorial Day we remember the six million Jewish men, women and children who were murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators; and we honour the survivors who rebuilt their lives while coming to terms with unimaginable loss.

“Over 80 years on, the Holocaust is fading further into history. As the voices of survivors sadly fades, the responsibility to continue their legacy passes firmly on to the next generation. Holocaust Memorial Day must be a call to action.

“Antisemitism must be confronted early and decisively, everywhere it appears, before it escalates into violence. It is up to all of us.”
