Gillingham have signed a midfielder who scored against them last weekend.
Newport County’s Cameron Antwi came off the bench to score at Priestfield last Saturday and has now completed a move to Gillingham.
He’s agreed a two-and-a-half year deal after moving for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old’s goal against the Gills put Newport 2-1 ahead at the time but Gareth Ainsworth’s men staged a late comeback to win 3-2.
Antwi, who was out of contract in the summer, joins from a Newport side struggling at the bottom of League 2.
He’s scored five goals this season from midfield and has been at Newport for 18 months, joining them in the summer of 2024 from Cardiff City.
He started his career as a junior at Fulham and turned professional at Blackpool.
Speaking to the Gills, he said: “I am delighted. I’ve had a look around the stadium. I get a good vibe from everyone at the club, and I can’t wait to get started.
“When I spoke to the manager, I felt an ambition, and there was a target for this club. That was the big drive for me.
“I could feel the energy as soon as I met him and Dobbo.”
Chairman Brad Galinson revealed the signing on social media ahead of Gills’ trip to Harrogate.
