A Margate shop is going from strength-to-strength after attracting interest on social media due to its quirky presence and array of unusual items on its shelves
A Kent shop has become a viral sensation owing to its quirkiness showcased by visitors on social media. One of those recent customers, Imogen Tinkler took to TikTok following her trip to Margate to see if it lived up to its online hype.
“Went to see if it was actually that good… spoiler: it really, really is,” she declared in a video. “Tiny treasure in the seaside town of Margate, packed with things you absolutely don’t need but instantly want.” Indeed, the shop’s slogan is, “trinkets, bits and things and such”, which Imogen soon discovered for herself as she headed inside.
The shop in question opened in autumn 2025 and is known as Silly, and it can be found on Hawley Street in Margate’s Old Town.
With a strikingly bright orange facade, Silly’s shelves are packed with an array of weird and wonderful items, which Imogen did her best to showcase in her clip.
From nostalgic children’s toys and Simpsons memorabilia to 90s kitchen crockery and books, the shop boasts a variety of unusual goods.
It even sells its own brand of merchandise including clothing, stationary and candleholders.
Imogen closed: “If you enjoy feeling happy, you need this on your list.”
Writing in response, one TikTok user praised: “It’s great in here. I mean the colour alone makes you smile!”
Whilst a second simply declared: “Nostalgia!” To which Imogen concurred: “100%. I keep finding things now and want to display them as they make me so happy! I found my rainbow bright yellow wallet from the 1980s still perfect and want to use it but don’t want to loose it!
“And it’s likely I will. Also an insane troll collection and feel ridiculous I won’t let me children play with it as they had their clothes of in seconds and I was horrified!”
The shop’s owner, Sheri Scott – also known as Forever Yours Betty – said of her business last month on Instagram: “In just two months this not-so-silly orange shop became my saving grace, silly-handedly holding me together, making me laugh, giving me purpose and reminding me that joy and magic still exists even in the darkest of spaces.
“I still can’t believe it was only in May I wrote ‘only something silly will save me’ and it did. Silly changed the entire trajectory of not just the year, but my life too. And I’m so grateful for it, and for you.”
