High levels of flooding have closed the Barcombe Mills Road, in Barcombe, East Sussex, this afternoon (January 15).

However, one driver attempted to making the crossing before finding themself stuck.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended to help recover the driver.

The service urged the public “not to drive through flood water” and to follow safety advice on their website.

A spokesperson for the service said: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service assisted with the safe rescue of a van driver in flood water at Barcombe Mills Road, Barcombe, at 11.18 today (16 January). The driver was helped to an area of safety.

“Members of the public are recommended not to drive through flood water, which creates a dangerous situation which may result in someone being rescued.

“Please visit our website for safety advice on winter weather and floods.”
