Multiple images show debris from the container along the beach.

Matt Silvaire, who took some of the images, said: “The tins of powdered milk and paper cups are littered along the tidemark, about half a mile or so of it. The container is in two pieces on the beach.”

Lewes District Council has said all relevant agencies are aware of the container and are working to remove it.

Visitors to the beach are advised to keep away from the debris.

The incident at Seaford is the latest in a number of similar occurrences, which include a separate container that washed up on Elmer Beach, near Bognor Regis, on Monday January 12.

Multiple containers also washed ashore along the Sussex shoreline in December 2025, after falling from the cargo ship Baltic Klipper.
