A man has been charged following an assault on a woman working in a Whitstable pub. Kent Police was called to The Peter Cushing Wetherspoon in Oxford Street shortly after 11pm on Friday, December 19.

It was reported that a man refused to leave the premises after which the staff member was assaulted. Officers attended along with paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

A woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of facial injuries. She has since been discharged.

Police said initial enquiries were completed and an investigation was launched, leading to the arrest of a man in connection with the incident on Friday afternoon (January 9). Later that evening, Leon Whimsett, of Gilchrist Avenue, Herne Bay, was charged with assault and failing to leave a licensed premises.

The 24-year-old was bailed with conditions to appear before Margate Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 26.
