The A27 eastbound near Portslade was closed this morning from the Southwick Hill Tunnel to the A293 (Portslade / West Hove turn off) following a lorry fire on the A27 Eastbound.

Crews from National Highways were in attendance, alongside fire and rescue and police.

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue said: “We were called on 13 January at 9.27am to reports of a single vehicle fire on the A27 Eastbound tunnel to Hangleton.

“Two fire engines from Preston Circus and Hove, and one fire engine from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance.

“Crews used four breathing apparatus, one hosereel jet and one dry powder extinguisher to put the fire out.

“One person was handed over to the care of the ambulance service for smoke inhalation.

“Crews remained in attendance for scene safety. Police were also in attendance to support with road closures.”
