There has been a major health and safety boost on Northern Irish trains as they have now been equipped with defibrillators.

Translink installed the life-saving equipment onboard of its rail fleet in December last year and comes following a call from the wife of a train driver who was left brain damaged after suffering a heart attack while working.

Gareth Myatt, suffering life-changing injuries after a heart attack on the Belfast to Portadown line outside of Lisburn. He had made an emergency stop prior to this after someone had jumped onto the train line.
