In her post, Councillor McCallin said: “I’ve been contacted by a friend who had a bad accident this morning coming down Stewartstown Road at the corner of Glengoland. Their car hit black ice and when they tried to alert another driver they crashed, also knocking down the driver of the first car who was attempting to alert oncoming traffic.
“They have asked me to share to alert others of the dangers. I’ve been told it is black ice and would urge drivers to continue to be very careful.”
She added that she has requested grit to be delivered to Horn Drive community centre as there have been reports of similar treacherous conditions in Horn Drive and Lower Lenadoon.
A police spokesman told Belfast Live: “Police received a report of black ice in the Glengoland Avenue area this morning, the Department for Infrastructure were informed.
“Road users are advised to take extra care especially in areas which may not have been gritted due to wintry conditions.
“Clear your windscreen of ice and snow before you set off on your journey, and remember to slow down and increase the distance between you and the vehicle ahead.”
