A total of 26 bags of cannabis were seized
A suspected drug dealer on an e-bike has been arrested after he tried to evade Kent Police drone pilots.
Officers were in Gravesend town centre as part of an operation targeting nuisance and illegal e-bikes and e-scooters on January 3.
During the patrol, drone footage captured the suspect carrying out what was believed to be a drug deal. When an officer attempted to stop him, the suspect collided with the officer in an effort to escape.
Drone pilots continued to monitor his movements and guided officers on the ground to his location, where they seized 26 bags of cannabis.
The 19-year-old from Gravesend was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply, dangerous driving, assault on an emergency worker, and criminal damage. He has been bailed while enquiries continue.
As part of the same operation, eight e-bikes and e-scooters were seized from individuals riding in the High Street area. Each rider received a Traffic Offence Report.
Inspector Tom Elliott from the Gravesend Community Safety Unit said: “It is against the law to use e-scooters on public streets, pavements or cycle lanes.
“They are only permitted on private land, with the landowner’s permission, and in areas where the Government has authorised trials. Currently, there are no such trials in Kent.
“Using e-scooters on public roads creates hazards for other road users, and in the event of a collision, the lack of insurance means others could be left to cover the costs.
“Officers will continue proactive checks in Gravesend, and the message is clear: anyone found riding an e-scooter or e-bike will face enforcement action.”
