Temperatures have dropped below freezing across the county, leaving roads and pavements covered in snow and ice.

In East Sussex, schools in Chailey, Forest Row, Horam, and Wadhurst are among those affected, with closures or partial closures in place due to the weather.

Chailey School in South Chailey is closed entirely due to having no heating.

Forest Row Church of England Primary School and Nursery is also closed, citing a lack of water.

St Mary’s School in Horam is partly closed, with students being asked to arrive late because of heating issues.

Due to no heating in school and cold weather conditions, the school will open at 10.15am on January 6.

“We will continue to monitor conditions daily to ensure the wellbeing of pupils and staff”, the school added.

Wadhurst Church of England Primary School is also facing disruption, with most pupils being told to stay home due to a lack of heating.

Only the nursery and Puffins class remain open, while the rest of the school is closed.

Remote learning has been put in place for students who are unable to attend in person.

The school closures follow a wider cold snap that has hit Sussex after the Christmas break, with temperatures struggling to rise above freezing.

Snowfall has been reported in parts of Worthing, Horsham, and Brighton.

Parents and carers can check the East Sussex County Council website for the latest updates on school closures at www.eastsussex.gov.uk/education-learning/schools/school-closures.
