James Menghe, 38, targeted retail stores in the West Sussex town between October and December.
His latest spree put him in breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) to prevent his offending, police said.
Menghe, of Ivy Arch Road, Worthing, was identified and arrested by officers from the Worthing Neighbourhood Policing team.
At a hearing at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on December 23, it was heard that the first identified theft was at Sainsburys, in Lyons Farm, where Menghe stole gin bottles.
On October 15, he entered the Co-op in Goring Road and stole laundry detergent, then on October 17 entered the Co-op in Rowlands Road where he stole wine bottles.
It was heard that Menghe then targeted the Co-op store in Rowlands Road with further thefts, twice on November 5 where he took meats, on 9 November he stole biscuits and salmon, and then stole again on December 3 when he stole chocolate pretzels and later stole meats.
Menghe also stole meat, salmon and gammon from the Rowlands Road Co-op on December 6, then targeted the Co-op in South Street, Tarring, by stealing meats on December 7 and December 16.
He admitted 11 shop theft offences and eight breaches of a CBO and was sentenced to 50 weeks in prison.
Speaking after the case, Inspector Christopher Bryant said: “Menghe has been a prolific shop thief who has committed multiple offences in Worthing.
“We understand the concerns that shoplifting has for the people who live, work and visit the town, and it should not just be seen as part of the job for retail workers.
“That is why we work hard alongside stores and partner agencies to identify prolific offenders, and we were determined to get Menghe into custody to prevent re-offending.
“We are pleased he is now serving a significant custodial sentence.”
