While some rang in the New Year at parties or cosied up on the couch, a few families welcomed their newest member.
The first baby born in Scotland was Leo Lynch, who came into the world at 0.21am at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.
Baby girl Kousar, yet to be given a first name, arrived at 0.26am at Princess Royal in Glasgow, weighing 7lb 12oz.
She is pictured by Bernie Bunce, Gemma McNeill and Jess Ingleson, midwives.

Vincent Robertson was born at 1.22am to his parents, Emily and Kyle, on the same ward.
Mother and baby are both doing well and the couple is “ecstatic” about the newborn.
The 30-year-old dad said: “We are very happy, everyone is very healthy.
“It was good, everything went well, it was a smooth birth.
“I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I might have been, the ward was calm and relaxed and the room was very nice.”

Vincent arrived a little early, bringing unexpected joy to the pair.
Kyle continued: “His arrival was a bit of a surprise, he wasn’t due for another two days but we didn’t have any Hogmanay plans, we knew it was inevitable.
“Hopefully, we can get home now and let him see his sibling.”
Weighing 7lbs 7oz, Vincent will be welcomed home by his big brother, Louis.
