Controversial Lewes Boxing Day hunt 2025 scheduled to go ahead - UK Daily: Tech, Science, Business & Lifestyle News Updates

The Southdown and Eridge with East Sussex and Romney Marsh trail hunting pack confirmed the Lewes Boxing Day trail hunt parade will take place on December 26.

Horses and hounds will parade down Lewes High Street from 11.20am.

A spokesperson said: “Looking forward to seeing everyone on Boxing Day.

“Do come along for our traditional parade and walk off a bit of your Christmas lunch.

“Join everyone in showing support for the countryside, farmers and your rural community.

“We ask that everyone respects the other people at the parade to ensure we can all enjoy the sight of our wonderful hounds and the amazing atmosphere.”

Last year, Sussex Police reported eight people were arrested at the event.

Trail hunting involves laying a scent of an animal, usually using urine, across the countryside which a pack of hounds then searches for and follows.

It is still controversial as the scent is laid in areas where the animals live to recreate the conditions of a traditional hunt.

Critics say hounds may pick up the scent of live animals still as a result.

An animal welfare strategy, launched by the government on December 22, includes plans to ban trail hunting.
