A hospital worker has been left with serious facial injury following an assault in Medway. Kent Police officers were called at 9.40am on December 20 to reports of a disturbance at Medway Maritime Hospital.

They attended the scene on Windmill Road, Gillingham where a member of staff and some visitors had reportedly been assaulted. A suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “The hospital worker was later treated for a serious facial injury. It is further alleged that three police officers were later assaulted at the police station.”

On December 22, Onyekewazie Abuah, 21, from Maidstone Road, Chatham, was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, two assaults and three counts of assaulting a constable in the execution of their duties.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court where he was remanded in custody until his next appearance at the same court on December 30.
