A bus driver suffered head injuries after being attacked on Saturday evening.

The incident took place at around 9.30pm on Saturday, December 13, on board the No6 bus route when the bus driver was reportedly attacked, suffering head injuries. No6 route travels along East Belfast including the Cregagh Raod, Castlereagh Road, Belvoir and Newtownbreda

Police have said that an investigation into the assault has now been launched and are asking anyone with any information regarding it to contact them.

Inspector Stuart Jackson said: “This assault took place on a bus on the evening of Saturday, 13th December. The bus driver sustained an injury to his head. Translink staff provide an essential service to the public and abuse of this nature is completely unacceptable. Our investigation is ongoing and we would appeal for any witnesses to come forward. “We would ask for the support of the local community in showing zero tolerance to abuse of transport staff. “Anyone wishing to report a crime that occurs on any method of public transport, or any offence against Translink staff or passengers, should contact police on 101 or in an emergency dial 999.”
