The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service rushed to Renfield Street in the city centre following reports of smoke.
Three fire appliances were dispatched to the scene after the alarm was raised at 2.24pm on Sunday, December 14.
The street was later shut between West George Street and St Vincent Street due to the incident.
Glasgow City Council said in a statement: “Due to an ongoing Fire Service Incident, Renfield Street is currently closed between West George Street and St Vincent Street.
“Road users are advised to avoid this route. Delays should be expected.”
A representative for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said earlier on Sunday: “We are there investigating smoke coming out of a drain and there is a power outage in the area.

“There are three fire engines in attendance and we got the original call at 2.24pm.”
Stagecoach West Scotland said the incident had led to service disruption.
It posted on X: “We’ve had to temporarily divert our X19 and 4 services due to a Police incident on Renfield Street.
“We will not be able to service stops on Renfield or Hope Street. The closes stop will be on Jamaica Street.
“We’ll update our information as soon as we can.”
