A woman in her 40s was announced dead at the scene

A woman had died after a house fire in Dunmurry, making her the third house fire fatality in a 24 hour period in Northern Ireland.

Emergency services were called to the scene on an ongoing fire in the Areema Drive area before 4am on Saturday morning where a woman in her 40s was announced dead at the scene.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “At approximately 3.55am on Saturday morning, 13th December police received a report of an ongoing fire at a property in the Areema Drive area.

“Officers attended alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service who extinguished the fire.

“Sadly a woman, aged in her 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A man aged in his 50s, a 19-year-old woman, and 11-year-old girl who were also in the property, were taken onward to hospital for treatment to smoke inhalation.

“Officers are continuing to conduct enquiries into the circumstances of the fire. At this stage, however, it is not being treated as suspicious.”

On Friday, a man in his 20s and a woman in her 50s died in two separate house fire incidents. Police were notified of a fire in the Queen Victoria Gardens area of North Belfast at around 11.00am.

Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service extinguished the blaze but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second fire occurred in the Abbey Park area of Bangor, at around 12.30pm. The fire was again extinguished by the Fire & Rescue Service, but a woman aged in her 50s was pronounced dead at the scene.
