Graffiti on the floor at the entrance to the building reads “drop Elbit”.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Police are investigating a report of criminal damage caused to a bank in North Street, Brighton.

“The incident is believed to have been caused in the morning of December 13 at about 3.50am, at the junction with Bond Street in the city centre.

“Witnesses or anyone with relevant information can report it to Sussex Police online or by calling 101 and quoting serial 358 of 13/12.”

A spokeswoman for HSBC said: “We are aware of an incident at our branch in North Street and it is currently closed.

“Our aim is to get back open and running as quickly as possible.

“We apologise to any customers who may have wished to visit the branch today.”
