Emergency services were called to Seaford station on Wednesday evening (September 10) but 16-year-old Josh Ingram was pronounced dead at the scene.

A murder investigation was launched and a 16-year-old boy is due to appear in court charged with his killing.

The British Transport Police (BTP) today issued a statement in which they quoted Josh’s family.

According to the BTP, the family described Josh as a “cheeky chappie who was loved by many.”

Josh is gone “far too soon,” they added.

The British Transport Police said: “The family of a teenager who died following an incident at Seaford station on Wednesday (10 September) are today releasing an image of him.

“Joshua Ingram, aged 16 and who lived in Newhaven, is described by his family as a ‘cheeky chappie who was loved by many’ and who was taken ‘far too soon.’

“His family are being supported by specially trained officers, and we would ask their privacy is respected.”

Flowers, notes, and images of Josh have been laid on Dane Road, in Seaford, outside the old Lloyds bank building and at the railway station.

“We will miss our little chats and your cheeky sense of humour,” one tribute said.

A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, appeared at court today (September 12) charged with murder and possession of a knife.

At Brighton Magistrates Court, prosecutor Joseph Lewis said it was over a “very minor drug debt.”

The court heard Joshua was stabbed in the back and side.

The boy accused of murder hugged his father after he was allowed to leave the dock for the hearing.

Wearing a grey sweatshirt and joggers, the boy was allowed to sit in court rather than the dock.

His mum wept as the boy spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

Prosecutor Joseph Lewis told the court that on September 10 the victim and a friend were walking to the train station when he was attacked.

The prosecutor said a knife was plunged into Joshua in his back and again in his side.

“This was a targeted and vicious attack over nothing more than a very minor drug debt.”

The 16-year-old boy was remanded into custody. He hugged and kissed his parents before being taken down.

District Judge Amanda Kelly described his death as tragic and shocking.

The teenager will appear in court again next week.
