This is something that I have done with my own mirrors, leaving them marred by streaks and small specs of dirt.
Earlier this week, I decided to tackle this issue head-on, but when I was finished wiping them down, I noticed that they were still streaky and not at all as spotless as I’d hoped.
I decided to give the ‘N’ and ‘Z’ mirror cleaning technique a go – this is what I thought

The channel specialises in educating users on ways to clean their homes quickly using a range of cheap and easy DIY hacks.
In the caption of her video, the creator said: “Do you ever get frustrated with the smudges and streaks on your mirror? Don’t worry, friend! I have some simple steps that will make your mirror look sparkling and clear in no time.”
Highlighting how her method works, the YouTuber added: “First, grab a microfiber cloth and some glass cleaner (I recommend the Truly Free brand). Spray the glass cleaner directly onto the mirror surface, but be careful not to overdo it.
After spraying the mirror down, I employed the ‘N’ technique (Image: NQ/Andrew Smart) “Next, take that trusty microfiber cloth and wipe the mirror in a Z (side to side) pattern for larger mirrors or an N (up and down) pattern for smaller, horizontal mirrors.
“Once you’ve wiped down the whole mirror, take a step back and admire your reflection in a crystal-clear mirror. See? It’s easy-peasy! Follow me for more friendly tips like this one.”
Taking her advice, I started by locating my microfiber cloth from underneath the kitchen sink as well as my spray bottle of glass cleaner.
I was very impressed after using this hack to clean the mirror (Image: NQ/Andrew Smart) Spraying the solution onto the full-length mirror, ensuring the whole area was covered, I then employed the “Z” technique to carefully and firmly wipe the surface down.
Compared to my usual method, which involves simply cleaning the mirror willy-nilly, this more considered approach proved to be far more effective.
After touching up some neglected spots, I was impressed by the results and was able to enjoy a streak-free view.

Put simply, my answer would be a resounding yes!
Not only does the technique work, but it was also quite fun and was easy to replicate over various types of mirrors.
The “N” technique works better for wider mirrors, while the “Z” technique is effective for longer, larger mirrors, such as the one I did my initial trial on.
