Steve Bell CBE, the former leader of the Conservative Group in Brighton and Hove, has today announced that he has joined Reform.

In a post made on social media, Mr Bell wrote: “I want the best for the UK so, I was left with no choice, as I couldn’t continue with the failed promises and continued move to the left shadowing Labour ideology.

“Soft on crime, higher taxes and failed immigration policies.”

Steve Bell was awarded his Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace, in 2016.

He served as the leader of the local conservative group from 2019 until 2023 when he lost his seat at the local elections in Woodingdean to Labour.

Councillor Alistair McNair took over.
