Angela Rayner’s flat in Hove has been graffitied with the term “tax evader” following her admission yesterday that she had made a “mistake” and referred herself to standards adviser Sir Laurie Magnus.

The word “b***” along with a much larger sign saying “tax evader!” have been pictured on a white wall on the outside of the property.

Across the road, “Tax evader Rayner” and “Rayner tax avoidance” have been graffitied on construction chipboard.

A spokesperson for Angela Rayner said vandalism at her Hove flat is “totally unjustifiable and beyond the pale”.

The spokesperson said: “This vandalism to residents’ homes is totally unjustifiable and beyond the pale.

“Neither Angela nor her neighbours deserve to be subjected to harassment and intimidation.

“It will rightly be a matter for the police to take action as they deem appropriate.”

Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner pictured in Hove (Image: Sussex News and Pictures) Chancellor Rachel Reeves gave the deputy prime minister her “full confidence” today to remain in post while Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said she had “sought to be transparent” in the scandal over her tax affairs.

They said a conveyancer and two experts in trust law had all suggested the amount of stamp duty she paid on the property was correct and she acted on the advice she was given at the time.

Ms Rayner has been under mounting pressure in recent weeks after reports emerged she had saved £40,000 in stamp duty on her flat in Hove by not paying the higher rate reserved for additional home purchases.

Sir Keir Starmer has condemned vandalism at Angela Rayner’s seaside flat in Hove after she admitted underpaying stamp duty on the property.

A Downing Street spokesman said: “Some of you may have seen the photos of the vandalism of the Deputy Prime Minister’s home this morning.

“The Prime Minister condemns this vandalism in the strongest possible terms.

“Whatever scrutiny our parliamentarians may face, it is appalling that their private homes should be targeted in this way.”

Sussex Police has been approached for comment.
