The presence of owners Brad and Shannon Galinson has added to the feel-good factor at the start of Gillingham’s season.

That’s the verdict of manager Gareth Ainsworth as their American owners head back home in the coming days.

The duo have seen Gillingham remain unbeaten at the start of the League 2 season and they’ve been able to feel part of the culture that Ainsworth is trying to create at the club.

“I know Brad and Shannon are probably going home in the next few days, and to have them for this moment – this first section of games – has been brilliant,” said Ainsworth.

“We’re all in it together. I’m trying to create a closer bond between fans, players, and staff.

“I’m trying to get this identity with Gillingham. I’ve worked really hard (on it).

“When you can take your moments, believe me, as a football manager, take them.”

Ainsworth had already given his players Monday off before the win over Crewe to reward their start to the season.

He’s looking forward to spending some extra time at home but knows he’ll soon have all eyes on the weekend trip to Oldham.

“I’m sure the family will be happy to see me on Monday for a few hours,” he added.

“But I know what will happen. I’ll have the laptop out and I’ll be watching Oldham and trying to hatch a plan.

“The drive around the M25 won’t be missed, but I’m enjoying it. I’m enjoying staying here, I stay up once a week. I’m enjoying Gillingham.

“We’re at the stage now where fans are stopping me in the street saying, ‘great to have you, we love it’.

“I’m loving it, I really am, and hopefully we can carry on these good moments together.”
