Police responded to a report that a 13-year-old girl had been assaulted by a group of youths in Wish Park in Hove at about 5.55pm on Friday evening (August 15).

The young girl, called Freya, was faced with the group of teenagers when she arrived at the park, her mum Charlotte said.

Charlotte said Freya was “traumatised” by the incident and is now scared to leave her home

She said: “My daughter was attacked.

“She was absolutely terrified.

“This type of attack is not okay. It’s not something that can be brushed aside.”

Charlotte said the girls were known to each other.

“Not all children get on,” she added, “but what came from that is not okay.

“She’s traumatised. She had to go to the hospital. She’s terrified to go out.”

Her daughter went to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged, police confirmed.

Sussex Police have now confirmed the children have been bailed while enquiries continue.

Following the arrests, Chief Inspector Simon Marchant, of the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Brighton, said: “This was a deeply troubling incident which has understandably caused concern within the local community.

“Our officers have now arrested all of the young people we wanted to speak with in connection with the report, and wider enquiries remain underway.

“We are aware that footage relating to this incident is circulating online, and we continue to urge the public not to share or speculate, as this could affect any future legal proceedings.

“This case is being fully and robustly investigated, and if you have information to report, we ask you come forward and speak with police.”
