The incident occurred at Seaford Bay on August 17.
RNLI Eastbourne posted about it on Facebook, saying that a Mayday relay was issued by HM Coastguard, “requesting assistance from any nearby vehicles.”
Fortunately, both individuals had managed to safely reach the shore by the time the lifeguard arrived.
HM Coastguard said that the two individuals were helped to shore by a paddleboarder.

“On Sunday August 17, at 3:25 pm, our All-Weather Lifeboat received an immediate tasking by Solent Coastguard following reports of a child in difficulty in the water at Seaford Bay.
“As the crew made best speed in worsening sea conditions, updated information confirmed that two people – a child and an adult – were in the water, clinging to a paddleboard being blown offshore by strong winds.
“With the lifeboat still 25 minutes away, Solent Coastguard issued a Mayday relay, requesting assistance from any nearby vessels.
“Fortunately, by the time the lifeboat arrived on scene, both casualties had managed to reach the shore safely.
“With no further assistance required, the crew returned to the airshow just in time to watch the Red Arrows.”
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “A child and adult reported to be in difficulty in the water at Seaford Bay at about 3:25 pm on August 17 were brought safely to shore with the help of a paddleboarder.
“HM Coastguard sent the RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat from Eastbourne and Newhaven Coastguard Rescue Team.”
