This “chocolate box” village is just a couple of hours from Brighton, perhaps even closer if you live further west.
Brockenhurst, which lies in the heart of the New Forest in Hampshire, is described as having “bundles of charm”.

‘Chocolate box’ village near Sussex that is worth visiting
The village has previously been listed as one of the best “picture-perfect chocolate box villages in the UK” by Snaptrip.
The phrase “chocolate box” refers to images of the beautiful cottages that used to front the iconic Cadbury’s boxes.
On its list, Snaptrip said: “Brockenhurst has bundles of charm and history and offers a wide range of activities to participate in all year round.

Things to do in Brockenhurst
There is plenty to do on a visit to Brockenhurst, which the New Forest website describes as one of the most popular villages in the area.
“From scenic cycling routes and forest walks to welcoming pubs and local shops, this charming New Forest village has something for everyone,” it says.
Cycling routes are aplenty in and around the village, with bikes able to be hired from Cyclexperience in the centre of the village.
Routes highlighted include the seven-mile South Taste Trail, or the longer 11-mile circular Brock to Rhinefield route, which passes along the stunning Rhinefield Ornamental Drive.
If you are not a cyclist, you can walk around the village and explore the New Forest.
Perhaps you want to try horse riding, with Brockenhurst Riding Stables and Ford Farm Stables nearby.
Brokenhurst Manor Golf Club is a spot for keen golfers, too.
A restaurant highlighted by Snaptrips was Thai palace-inspired Zen Garden, with its decor and tranquil atmosphere making for “relaxed dining”.
The Zen Garden says it provides a “true Thai cooking experience”, with a menu including “time-honoured Thai favourites as well as exciting street dishes that are enjoyed all over Thailand at any time of day or night”.
It is rated a 4.5/5 on Tripadvisor from more than 500 reviews.
One review reads: “Lovely atmosphere and beautiful decor. Staff very attentive and informative.
“Amazing food and lovely wine lots of choice very generous portions. Would highly recommend.”
Another said: “Everything was great!! Appetiser to dinners. We go here or get take out often. Never disappointed.”
