Tell Us About Digital Capability Exchange UK

Digital Capability Exchange UK is a not-for-profit initiative designed to revolutionise the way technology consultancy companies are accessing and utilising talent across the industry.

Founded by three leading technology companies – Spyrosoft, Leighton and Opencast – the exchange aims to build a trusted network of members across the UK to offer a new approach to talent resourcing. Members of the exchange can provide talent for specific project opportunities and seek talent from others to meet project delivery demands.

The exchange aims to overcome a very common challenge experienced by technology consultancy businesses – matching brilliant people to the right work, at the right time. Traditionally, aligning talent with specific project demand can be incredibly complex and can often lead to over-hiring, which in turn can mean costly downtime for employees between projects, or under-resourcing, meaning projects take longer to deliver.

Digital Capability Exchange was specifically designed to smooth these peaks and troughs and offer companies an alternative model to traditional recruitment approaches that will ultimately allow all our members to optimise talent deployment and meet customer delivery goals more efficiently.

What most excites you about the Digital Capability Exchange?

Digital Capability Exchange UK is a novel approach to project resourcing in the UK. I think what most excites me is the opportunity to collaborate with others operating in our sector for mutual benefit. Prior to the launch of Digital Capability Exchange UK, we ran a pilot programme, and we’ve already made over 100 placements through that stream of work which shows us that this approach can really work.
The potential money and time that the exchange could offer members like us is huge and we’re really excited to see the platform grow and develop.

Another element I’m really excited about is the opportunities that the exchange could offer our colleagues. Often between projects valuable team members can experience downtime – or sitting on the bench – and through the exchange we can explore and offer some exceptionally talented people new and exciting opportunities quickly and efficiently. Our talent can be fully utilised, which is not only great from a business perspective, but it also means our people are engaged and fulfilled in their roles and that’s a great place to be.

What Can We Hope To See from the Digital Capability Exchange in the Future?

We’ve already seen huge interest in a very short period of time so ultimately, we’re hoping to see the platform continue to scale as we onboard new members, see more placements, deliver more projects and provide a long-term option for sustainable, scalable talent placement to meet specific project demand.

What we’re really aiming for in the future is to maximise on a mutually beneficial opportunity for those operating in technology consultancy. We want to support start-ups by mitigating some of those challenges around costly recruitment cycles when those big projects come through the door and ultimately support growth across our industry by finding a smarter, more sustainable way of doing things.

Beyond that, as our membership grows, we have aspirations to tackle other common challenges that UK technology consultancies face.

What Is Your Advice To Companies Considering Joining the Digital Capability Exchange?

My first bit of advice would be to get in touch and learn more about the benefits of becoming a member. This is already a proven, smarter, more sustainable way to resource project demands. It can offer your business an alternative way to find great talent, help you optimise utilisation and lower costs, as well as keep your own talent engaged in exciting work.

Expanding businesses can face a lot of growing pains and through the exchange we can help to mitigate some of those by providing a flexible, truly scalable pool of top-tier talent so companies can meet client demand with confidence knowing exceptional expertise is always on hand.
