Manager Gareth Ainsworth plans to name his Gillingham captain on Saturday.
Armani Little was handed the Gills captaincy in mid-February by former manager John Coleman, replacing Max Ehmer in the role.
Ainsworth will have his own ideas who he wants to lead his side on the field, but the manager wants the individual come from a group of leaders.
He isn’t short of options and several players have worn the armband over pre-season.
Experienced players in the side include goalkeeper Glenn Morris, defenders Max Clark and Conor Masterson, midfielders Jonny Williams, Robbie McKenzie, Little, Bradley Dack and summer addition Sam Vokes.
“I will announce it on Saturday,” said the manager, when asked about the captaincy decision.
“I’ve spoken to a group, there’s a leader group here, we’re creating this group that’s hopefully representing the dressing room with a bit of experience in it.
“Some leadership work for them I think will be important, some responsibility for them. The captain will come out of that group. I think they could all be captains.
“At (former club) Wycombe, it was Joe Jacobson, Matt Bloomfield, Adebayo Akinfenwa, we shared it up quite a bit. There was that group that would captain the team.
“We don’t have to make a big thing about the captain.
“I want 11 captains out there, I’m not going to get it. There’s some young players out there learning the game still. But we’ll get this leadership going at the club.
“We know where our leaders are and what we want to represent. On Saturday, everyone will be looking to see who’s got the arm band on but I just want 11 leaders out there.”
