Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth says that Jack Nolan remains part of his plans.
Nolan was left out of the team that played at Dartford on Saturday after being selected to play in a side at Chatham Town the night before.
The 24-year-old captained the side in the game at Chatham and played 70 minutes.
Last season, Nolan played 36 games for the Gills, scoring once. The year before, he’d netted 17 times for Accrington with as many assists, stats that attracted him to Gillingham, signing for an undisclosed fee.
Speaking on Saturday, Ainsworth insists that the winger can have a part to play under him this season.
Explaining the selection decision at the weekend, Ainsworth said: “ There wasn’t really enough space to get him minutes in the group (at Dartford).
“Jack’s part of the team. He’s on a contract here, so we’ll keep including Jack in the squad. No problem at all, unless we’re told otherwise.”
Splitting the squad between the two games enabled players to get longer minutes on the pitch, with Nolan the most senior player representing the Gills at Chatham.
Left-back trialist Lenni Cirino and young midfielder Nelson Khumbeni were also involved in a team that lost 1-0.
Ainsworth added: “It was great for Jack to lead them but just probably not enough space to get everyone minutes in the game (at Dartford).”
Gillingham start their season at Nolan’s former club Accrington this Saturday.
