The Battle of Hastings will be brought to life in a new eight-part historical epic.
The series, titled King & Conqueror, will focus on the legendary figures Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy.
James Norton will portray Harold, Earl of Wessex, while Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will play William, Duke of Normandy.
James Norton is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Tommy Lee Royce in the BBC drama Happy Valley.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will star at William, Duke of Normandy (Image: Lilja Jons) King & Conqueror, written by Michael Robert Johnson, will also feature Emily Beecham as Harold Godwinson’s wife, Edith Swan Neck, and Clémence Poésy as Matilda, William’s wife.
Eddie Marsan is set to play King Edward, with Juliet Stevenson as Lady Emma and Jean-Marc Barr as King Henry.
King & Conqueror aims to tell the story of “a clash that defined the future of a country – and a continent – for a thousand years.”
The narrative traces back decades, exploring interconnected family dynasties vying for power across two nations.

Now, the BBC has released the first official trailer for the show – and it looks very epic.
The 60-second trailer aptly maps out the drama to come, from the initial bond between Harold, Earl of Wessex, and William, Duke of Normandy, to their eventual rivalry.
In one scene, we see Norton’s Harold say: “I cannot let William even think that he can take the crown.”

The BBC has acquired broadcasting rights for the series in the United Kingdom.
BBC has confirmed that King & Conqueror will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One “this August”.
