Yesterday afternoon (July 24), a police cordon was placed on Newfield Road in Newhaven following reports of unexploded munitions.
Residents living in the road and nearby properties were evacuated.
Yesterday evening, a 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Officers subsequently searched the property on Newfield Road, which was linked to the man, when the unexploded munitions were discovered.
Following an assessment from the bomb squad, Sussex Police has now confirmed that the items have been identified as two decommissioned grenades.

The 54-year-old man has been released on conditional bail as further enquiries are carried out.
Inspector Sarah Taylor, of the Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during the disruption.
“We also extend our gratitude to Lewes District Council for providing rest facilities for those temporarily displaced while assessments were carried out to ensure the items found posed no risk to the public.
“Officers will remain in the area as part of the ongoing investigation and while further searches take place at the address.”
