The annual March of the Mermaids took place on Brighton seafront today, July 5.

The group set off from the peace statue at Hove Lawns at around 2pm, dressed in glittering costumes.

The wind and grey skies did nothing to dampen the dazzling sight as they proceeded to Fortune of War, where they finished.

It also raises money for charities, including the Wave Project, which gives young people aged between eight and 18 who need mental health support an opportunity to take to the waves and enjoy the sea.

Aless travelled from London specifically for the event and it was her first time taking part.

She said: “I brought a group of friends with me.

“It has a great message and its an occasion to dress up.”

Andy, who has lived in Brighton for 40 years, is a regular participant in the event.

Andy said: “It’s so nice for a parade to be on foot and not on the back of lorries. It’s more fun.
