The RNLI’s inshore lifeboat from Hayling was sent as well as Hayling and Selsey Coastguard Rescue Teams.

Someone who was at the beach told The Argus that they saw the women “stuck on a small inflatable float” in the water and they were “screaming for help”.

They said: “It became clear they were in real danger — they couldn’t get back to shore and were visibly panicking.

“They were shouting desperately for around 10 minutes.

“Others and I were also screaming for help from the beach and the water, trying to draw attention to them.

“A jet ski eventually reached them and brought them to the shore.”

They added that the people involved were “screaming” as they were brought to shore, and “appeared to be in serious distress”.

They added: “This was incredibly traumatic for everyone who witnessed it.”

South East Coast Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.
