Jack Leaning-inspired St Lawrence & Highland Court beat Bromley; Frontrunners Tunbridge Wells, Lordswood, Bexley and Sandwich Town triumph

Kent vice-captain Jack Leaning’s century led St Lawrence & Highland Court to a 123-run Kent League Premier Division home victory over Bromley on Saturday.

Leaning, not selected for Kent’s County Championship Division 2 game against Northamptonshire in Canterbury this week after a poor run of form, delivered a fine response. He top scored with 107 in the hosts’ 287-8 from 50 overs.

The 31-year-old’s knock included 11 fours and three maximums and was supported by opening batsman Dan Stickels (47) and teenager Oliver Curtiss (41) while Zac Philipson and Aditya Kumar returned 3-40 and 3-72, respectively, for Bromley.

West Indian overseas professional Shermon Lewis (4-68) and Sudesh Thakur (3-12) left No.11 Archie Ramanathan’s eventful 43 off 30 balls in vain.

Leaders Tunbridge Wells edged past hosts Holmesdale.

Viraj Bhatia (47) and Drew Beazleigh (43) helped guide the away team to 265-9 from 50 overs, Ben Fawcitt (3-33) and Anthony Bissett (3-41) claiming scalps.

William Harby and Leo Carter with 84 and 61, respectively, could only get Holmesdale to 250 all out in the 48th over as James Poulsom claimed 5-37 from 8.1 overs.

Second-placed Lordswood are 12 points off the pace, having earned a five-wicket home win against Minster.

Teenager Akhil Venugopalan’s 62 inspired Minster’s 180 all out in 43 overs while Joe Gordon claimed figures of 5-37.

Ed Taylor’s unbeaten 76 then saw Lordswood across the line once more despite Haider Zaidi (2-22) doing well.

Sandwich Town proved too strong for basement boys Blackheath in a high-scoring affair.

Tom Chapman’s 115, supported by his cousin Rory Smith’s 85 in a 200-run partnership, inspired their 312-7 from 50 overs while Angus McKenzie (2-48) and ex-Kent bowler Arafat Bhuiyan (2-75) claimed scalps.

George Wells thrashed 102 from 101 balls, supported by McKenzie (60) and Karanjot Singh (60), but Alex Smith’s 5-53 left Blackheath 266 all out with 10 balls to spare.
