West Sussex Fire and Rescue was called to a field on the South Downs on Saturday evening when it has been reported that four hectares were on fire, two miles north of Shoreham Airport.
A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 6.50pm to reports of a large crop fire on the South Downs at Steyning Road in Shoreham.
“Joint Fire Control mobilised two pumps and five wildfire vehicles to the scene.
“Firefighters used four high-pressure hose reels to bring the fire under control and a thermal imaging camera to deal with hotspots.
“The last crew left the scene at 8.00pm.”
