West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is at the scene of the incident in Durbans Road, Wisborough Green.
Five fire engines were called to the scene.
Pictures show the burnt roof of a house with smoke billowing from it.
The public is asked to avoid the area.
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 5.10pm to reports of a fire at Durbans Road, Wisborough Green.
“Joint Fire Control mobilised five fire engines to the scene.

“Upon arrival firefighters were faced with a house fire.
“They used hoses and an aerial ladder to bring the fire under control.
“We would encourage people to avoid the vicinity to allow firefighters to work safely and for local residents to keep windows and doors closed”
