Police were called to St Ann’s Well Gardens in Hove at around 11.40am today, June 4, following a report of a man in possession of a knife. 

An extensive search of the area was carried out, however no suspect was traced.

At around 2pm, several police cars and two ambulances were parked in Montpelier Road.

The road was blocked while crews worked. 

The emergency service vehicles left at around 2.40pm.

The Argus understands the two incidents are linked.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and the public can expect to see a heightened police presence in the area in the meantime.

“Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 431 of 04/06. In an emergency, dial 999.”
