Emergency services rushed to the scene on the M8 westbound at junction 27 (Arkleston) following reports of a ‘bridge strike’ at around 2.50pm today.

Cops have completely shut down the westbound carriageway to allow for recovery after the crash. 

Nearby Arkleston Road in Renfrew has also been closed.

Drivers are being urged to ‘avoid the area’. 

Meanwhile, Traffic Scotland is warning road users of delays of more than 40 minutes as the clear-up continues.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Lanes on the M8 towards Glasgow Airport are closed and the westbound carriageway will be closed completely for recovery following a lorry crash at junction 27 around 2.50pm on Wednesday, June 4.

“Arkleston Road, Renfrew, is also closed. Road users are advised to avoid the area.”
