A mum says she was left “shaking” after a bus she was travelling on was targeted with a brick in the middle of a high street.
The window of the Stagecoach vehicle was pelted outside Vane’s Bakery in Dover town centre at about 10.30am today.
Images taken by passenger Laura Phillips, who was on the 63 service with her children aged two and four, show a window of the bus smashed with what appears to be part of a brick left lying on a seat.
She said: “There were about 12 people on the bus – I was at the front with the buggy but could still see my kids.
“All I heard was a big bang then my children’s screams and cries. I rushed up there saw the window and the glass was all over the seats and my children, in their hair.
“A few of the other passengers helped me get the glass off the children and comfort them as they were crying and we moved them to the front of the bus.
“I was shaking and I could feel my heart hammering in my chest. It was scary as hell.”
Stagecoach, whose 63 service carries passengers between Pencester Gardens and Elms Vale Road, has confirmed no injuries were reported following the incident which happened in the High Street near the junction of Tower Hamlets Road.
A spokesperson for the operator said: “A route 63 bus was targeted with a rock as it turned on to Tower Hamlets Road from the High Street at around 10.13am.
“Thankfully no one on board the bus reported any injury, but a window was smashed and the bus had to be taken out of service.
“Targeting a moving vehicle is an extremely dangerous action. We urge anyone with information who may have seen a man throw the rock before walking up London Road to contact the police.”
The force has since confirmed an investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
Police say anyone with information should contact 01843 222289 and quote reference 15-0295.
