A motorcyclist has died and his pillion passenger left with potentially life-changing injuries following a collision. Emergency services were called to the A5 at Capel Curig, Conwy, at around 5.31pm today following a collision between a red Honda motorcycle and a white Volkswagen Caddy van.

The male motorcyclist was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The female pillion passenger was flown to hospital in Stoke with serious, potentially life-changing injuries.

The driver of the van sustained what was believed to be minor injuries, police said.

Sergeant Leigh McCann of the Roads Crime Unit is appealing for witnesses.

He said: “Our thoughts are with the motorcyclist’s family at this sad time.

“The investigation to establish the cause of the collision is underway and we are urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who may have been travelling along the A5 near Capel Curig around the time of the collision and who may have dash cam footage to come forward.

“The road remains closed in both directions at this time, and we’d like to thank the local community and motorists for their patience.”
