The main entrance was reportedly being guarded by four “huddled” officers outside with drapes blocking the view from the public inside.

Mike Markham, who was dining with his partner in the Beefeater restaurant opposite, first observed the strong emergency services presence around 7.30pm this evening.

He told KentOnline: “There are two police cars outside, down from three. There are two ambulances too.

“There are about four police officers huddled outside the main entrance who appear to be guarding the main entrance.

According to the eye-witness no one was being allowed access back to the venue via the main entrance.

Later, just before 9pm, he observed an “elderly woman” being escorted from the main lobby of the hotel to a car by a member of the ambulance team.

“The windows to the lobby are no longer covered and one of the two police cars have now left the premises,” he added.

“An ambulance car has also just left the premises, on the site of the vehicle, ‘operational commander’ was written.

“Both ambulance have left the premises and there are no emergency workers left on site.”
