Unilever has confirmed that REN Clean Skincare will be discontinued after 25 years.

The parent company cited “internal factors” and “market challenges” as reasons for the decision.

A statement from the company read: “Following the conclusion of a collective consultation period, we have taken the difficult decision to begin formal steps to close the REN business.

“A combination of internal factors, compounded by market challenges in recent years, has left the brand unable to sustain success in the long term.”

The statement praised the REN team for their achievements over the years, saying: “We are proud of the REN team for all they have accomplished during 25 years of business, putting clean skincare on the agenda and creating positive change for both people and planet.”

The company anticipates ceasing trading by the end of the third quarter of 2025, although no fixed closure date has been set.

This development follows unsuccessful attempts last year to sell both REN and Kate Somerville, as reported by Sky News in August 2023.

Unilever acquired REN Clean Skincare in 2015, adding it to its portfolio of prestige beauty brands.

Known for its commitment to clean ingredients and sustainable packaging, REN earned a cult following both in the UK and internationally.
