The city is expected to hit 22°C on Wednesday, while the Spanish island will top out at just 19°C.

The Met Office has forecast a “widely fine and very warm spell” across the week.

Monday will see a mild start with highs of 17C and some cloud cover. Overnight, temperatures will dip to around 8C before rising sharply.

Tuesday will bring long, sunny spells and highs of 20C.

By Wednesday — the hottest day of the week — the city will bask in wall-to-wall sunshine and reach 22C, hotter than holiday favourites like Barcelona, which will only hit 20C midweek.

A mostly clear night is expected on Wednesday, although there’s a small chance of showers.

Sunshine will return on Thursday with highs of around 20C, though the Met Office warns that cooler conditions are likely by Friday, as temperatures “return closer to average” across the north.

The Met Office added: “A good deal of dry and bright weather through this period. Very warm on Wednesday but a little rain will move southeast, followed by cooler weather on Thursday and Friday.”
