Hannah Woodward, 33, said she committed the thefts in order to fund her drug habit.
A sobbing shoplifter stole around £50 worth of salmon from a supermarket before going on to take more than £350 worth of handbags from a clothing store. The thief has committed a number of thefts in order to support her drug habit.
Hannah Woodward, 33, attended a Co-Op store in the Llandaff area of Cardiff on July 9 last year and took 12 cases of salmon before leaving without paying. She went on to attend a FatFace store in the city centre on September 27 and stole £375 worth of leather handbags.
A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday heard when the defendant was arrested in relation to these thefts, she said she had carried them out in order to fund her drug habit. For the latest court reports sign up to our crime newsletter.
On February 17, Woodward was at the home of Liam Martin who she had a sexual relationship with.
She had spent the night in Mr Martin’s bedroom injecting heroin and he placed her onto his bed in order to rest.
At around 7pm, he accidentally disturbed the defendant who awoke and became hysterical.
She began to throw plates at Mr Martin, hitting him in the face and causing a cut before leaving the property.
Woodward, of North Luton Place, Adamsdown, later pleaded guilty to two counts of shoplifting and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The court heard she has 19 previous convictions including nine offences against the person.
At the time of current offences, she was subjected to a suspended sentence for battery.
This involved an incident when she was shoplifting in Poundland in Queen Street and was stopped by a security officer.
The defendant reacted by grabbing hold of the security officer and telling her to “f****** move”.
Sentencing, Judge Jeremy Jenkins told Woodward the offences “crossed the custody threshold”.
He said the offences were aggravated by the defendant’s previous convictions and her poor record with complying with court orders.
Woodward, who wept on a video link from HMP Eastwood Park, was sentenced to a total of 26 weeks imprisonment.
