The force have revealed they will be increasing police presence in and around West Loch Lomond and Balloch this weekend and say this will continue through the summer months.

They will be patrolling the area in an effort to combat antisocial behaviour, working alongside British Transport Police, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, West Dunbartonshire Council, Argyll and Bute Council, Loch Lomond & The Trossach National Park and First Bus.

Those travelling to the area were reminded alcohol cannot be drunk in public places.

Police Scotland Argyll & West Dunbartonshire said on a Facebook post: “Please remember you cannot consume alcohol in designated public places.

“It is also now an offence to enter Balloch Park in possession of alcohol.”

Loch Lomond is a popular destination for day trips from Glasgow.

The Glasgow Times also reported last month that Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority is issuing new byelaws ahead of peak season this year.

The Loch Lomond byelaws, which came into force in November 2024, respond directly to changing recreational trends on Loch Lomond including significant increases in paddleboarding, kayaking, and open-water swimming.

The Loch Lomond Byelaw Changes are as follows:

  • Under 16s must wear life jackets on all moving vessels (powered or not).
  • Registration required for powered vessels (including jet skis)
  • New 6kph slow-speed zones at popular locations (clearly marked by buoys).
  • It is an offence to damage or remove public rescue equipment.
  • Owners are responsible if under-16s breach byelaws using their vessels.
  • Updated boundary for 11kph speed limit near southern islands (Inchtavannach, Inchmoan, Inchcruin).
