“I think I was just a bit bored, and spotted this house was for sale,” she explains, smiling. “We managed to view it and just knew it was meant for us.
“The style of it suited us and the furniture we had, the location is great – it just felt right.”
The stylish sandstone bungalow in Giffnock is now in contention for the title of Scotland’s Home of the Year.
The BBC One Scotland show returns to our screens on April 21, with judges Anna Campbell Jones, Banjo Beale and Danny Campbell once again off in search of outstanding properties across the country.
Pamela, her husband Gordon and son Caleb loved appearing on the show.
“It was a dream come true, actually, being on the programme, because I have always watched it,” says Pamela.

“And it was lovely because it really showed us how far we had come since we moved into the house.”
She adds, with a laugh: “Although we had to do so much cleaning….”
The 1930s bungalow is a happy family home which blends old and new, with many original features still in place.
Unusual brass finger plates on the doors draw approval from the judges, who also love the beautiful bronze light switches and chandeliers.
“We love the original touches – it just adds to the uniqueness of the place,” says Pamela, who is a graphic designer.
“And we wanted to make do with as much of what was already there as possible – not just because of cost, but also from an environmental point of view. It made sense to keep as much as we could.”
The abundance of brass even influenced Pamela and Gordon when it came to designing their new kitchen extension, which is clad in rich bronze tones.
“It really works well beside the sandstone of the original building,” says Pamela.
“We love living here, it’s a great place to stay. It’s great to feel part of the history of this home.”
Scotland’s Home of the Year is on BBC One Scotland on Monday, April 21 at 8.30pm.
